String projects

Pipes and drums are fine, but they are not enough. A quick search reveals a lot of failed, or at least miserable, attempts at making a robotic guitar. Quadrivium EnsembleBot wishes to join that tradition.

ROBRO

The first attempt was the Robro – an attempt to not only make a robotic guitar, but a slide guitar no less. This project went quite far, but while it had a functional slide, plectrums and dampeners, it had a serious flaw: The mechanics were far louder than the instrument itself.

After many years gathering dust, this project has now been declared defunct. It’s a shame to lose all the work and hardware, that went into the project, but the dobro-guitar could be put to better use in the planned – and yet unnamed – robotic guitar project.

GUITARBOT

While the Robro project posed some nice mechanical challenges, the planned Robotic Guitar project GuitarBot (the name may be subject to change) poses some interesting electronical challenges. Though built around the dobro from the defunct Robro project, it’s going to be a more traditional guitar.
